IF MY FATHER CAN

For seven years, Joy’s father, a Pastor had been a terror to her. When she was nine, her mother caught her father fondling her breasts and instead of rescuing her daughter, she said the little girl and her father were making love and she resents both of them because of that. In her words “You are enjoying what is mine”.

Joy Threatened to report her father but her mother discouraged her and forgave him because he is the father of her children and her husband.

The family prayed together for God’s forgiveness but shortly after, her father began abusing her again.

As the abuse continued, Joy decided to keep records of the ordeal. She would express herself in her book and write all about the torments, but one faithful day her father saw one of the records and destroyed it.

Anytime she resists her father, he will beat her and say she is very stubborn and badly behaved.

She couldn’t tell anyone until she finally told a friend who encouraged her to contact the Dorothy Njemanze Foundation and when she did, her case was reported to NAPTIP, and her father was arrested(we can remember the last call she made to us on a Monday morning before she was extracted “he did it again every day all through the weekend” and that was the last straw for him).
